Frock Fridays: Emerald in the Capital City

At the beginning of a new year, everyone seems to be talking about reexamining the way they blog - how they schedule their editorial calendar, when they write their posts, whether too much organization is better or worse than too little.  Personally, I found my ideal blogging rhythm in August, when I fell into the following groove: almost all of my posts are scheduled at least two weeks in advance, though I like to have the most complete picture as possible of the whole month, and I prepare as many posts as I can for the week ahead on the weekend, only polishing the night before a post is set to auto-publish.

This was especially helpful when I was working full-time, though in my six weeks of unemployment at the end of 2012 I allowed myself to be much more flexible because I had so few other time/energy constraints.  Now that I'm back in an office 40+ hours every week, I'm returning to my schedule since it makes my life a lot easier.  When I don't have to worry about my content in every non-working minute, I can engage with yours much more on a daily basis!

That being said, I'm going to tell you something special about today's post: I made the outfit on Polyvore over the weekend, but all of the copy here was written last night.  Look at me - so spontaneous!  But I really wanted to share my first week at my new job with you, and obviously that's not something I could write about in advance.  I never want organization to trump relevance on this blog!

So, without further ado, here's one of the exact outfits I wore this week to work (inspired by {av}'s theme of Pantone Emerald for today!) along with a little bit about how the new job is going...

Emerald in the Capital City
[ dress / necklace / earrings (mine were a gift, similar here) / card case / boots (mine are old, similar here) / purse (mine is vintage, similar here) ]

The short answer is: it's going really well.  My position actually didn't exist before, so the simple fact that I was hired is a indication of how seriously the head honchos take fundraising as an integral part of the organization.  (It's not personal, but I think my ego has doubled after a week of hearing "We're so glad you're here!")  There's tons o' potential in my area, which means that there's a lot of work to be done but also that they're totally ready for me to roll up my sleeves and do it.  I'm eager, too, though I have another week or so of meeting all of my colleagues, learning the history, and atarting to internalize the way the different moving pieces fit together.  But after that - watch out, DC!

I hope you've had a lovely week, dear readers. TGIF even if you love your jobs!

  11. I have a similar blogging schedule. I try to plan out ideas for the entire month and I try to write them a week ahead of time. But sometimes I'm stuck writing them the night before and I hate that!
